This red wine is made from the incredibly rare Mavro Kalavrytino grape. It only grows in one place in Greece - by Kalavrytino, on vineyards at an altitude of 800 meters, in the limestone-rich soil of the mountains of Peloponnes. The Mavro Kalavrytino grapes for this wine are hand-picked from 25-year-old bush vines.
It is a wine with a lively ruby red colour, with aromas of summer. It has hints of strawberry and cherry, variations of leather and earthiness. It has a soft and nice texture, with elegant acidity and lovely roundness.
The wine pairs well with many different dishes, but is especially good paired with tomato, goat's cheese, olives and spices.
The older the vintage, the more rustic the wine becomes, and you can find gamey notes in the older bottles. In the foot-pressed nature version of the wine with no added sulphites, you can also find hints of hay and stables.
Decant the wine before serving and use large glasses if you have any. We recommend that you serve this wine slightly chilled, especially in warmer weather.
Enjoy the wine at Delphine, ILUKA, Terroiristen Vinbar- og Butik and Gården & Gaden. It has previously been served at Spisehuset, Mastro, Restaurant Brace, Restaurant Vår (Danmark), as well as Pia's Kitchen and Hornstulls Bodega (Sverige) - and many many more.
The wine has its own nickname from Black of Kalavryta: BOK
